Each portrait begins with a photograph. I work from high-quality reference images, so the clearer the image, the stronger the final piece will be. Ideally, I need the face in sharp focus and well lit, or the body captured in a natural, well-balanced position that truly feels like them. The more detail I can see — particularly in the eyes and expression — the more accurately I can translate their character into the drawing.
